The meaning of the Homecoming symbol was to signify the return of a warrior. Elaborate ceremonies were held to welcome the braves at the end of a war.  Homecoming dances were held during festivals. The squaw dance of the Navajos, which in fact was originally a war dance, was performed at the end of a war or battle. It is one of the few Indian dances where both men and women danced together.
